Information Literacy

Information literacy is knowing why you need information, how to find and evaluate it, how to use it, and communicate -- all done ethically.

The skills needed to become information literate include:

  • Having a need for information
  • Knowing how to find information
  • How to find information in a library or electronically
  • How to use the information such as note taking and citing sources
  • How to organize your findings and begin to form your own opinions about your subject
  • Your ethical responsibility while using information
  • What is the best way to communicate what you found.
